Making sense of the new Facebook for Business Layout

Hi all just a quick few words on the new Facebook for Business Layout. If you’re the administrator of a Business page you will get the opportunity to change to the new layout immediately if not it will automatically change over on the 31st of March 2012.

The main change is that there will no longer be default landing pages, in its place will be a large Cover photo (850 x 315 pixels) on the front page a sort of background to the regular profile picture of the business. The main new feature is a ‘timeline’. Timeline lets you put up images and information from when your business was formed and lets you create an informational building block around your company. Coca-Cola is a good example of this and are using this feature very well by adding information and images from way back to when the company was formed in 1886. Sporting clubs such as Manchester United are also doing something similar by putting their valued history and photographs into the Timeline.

In terms of managing the new feature the main admin button is on the top right hand side by clicking this it will give you access to your insights, your likes, notifications, page tips and messages. An additional feature here is the ‘build audience’ tab by clicking on this it will reveal a couple of ways to grow your fan base and is a great way to start a ‘like’ campaign. The tab introduces you to, shares your business page, Invite friends, recommends friends and invites email contacts by importing your email list.

With the removal of the Default landing Page, Facebook have come up with a feature called ‘pinning’ the pinning feature lets you ‘pin’ a post that is of significant value to you for a week it then reverts back to the time it was posted. By ‘pinning’ a post you are giving it maximum status and it should be so important that it drives traffic to your selling portal, usually your website. Next week I will be writing about your photos and your custom apps.
