The following is the mission statement from Pinterest;
‘’Our goal is to connect everyone in the world through the ‘things’ they find interesting. We think that a favorite book, toy, or recipe can reveal a common link between two people. With millions of new pins added every week, Pinterest is connecting people all over the world based on shared tastes and interest.’’
So how exactly do they do this? It is a sort of online virtual pinboard allowing everybody and anybody to post or ‘pin’ a picture on their board. You can easily look at, share, comment and like other ‘pins’. The idea is to connect and get inspiration from people with similar interests. In this regard people are using it to look at fashion ideas, decoration ideas, recipe ideas and so on..
So what’s a pin? A simple image added from the Internet, a website or from your photo album.Any image from a website is linked back to that website giving it credit. When you ‘pin’ you can create a board. A board can be created on any topic you wish such as places of interest, music & sporting heroes, favourite cities, Architecture, etc.. Add as many boards and as many pins as you like.
As with all social communities sites etiquette is of paramount importance. Tastes and opinions are personal so be respectful of others as you would like them to be of you in your comments and conversions.When ‘pinning’ always give credit to your pin i.e the website it was from, give thanks as they say.
Ultimately it is a fun site to be part of and the people at Pinterest are always looking for feedback to make it better. While you may find it hard to avoid self promotion by ‘pinning’ you are sharing your ideas and thoughts with the world and if you have something to shout about do it in a tasteful way it will be better received by the community as a whole.
Enjoy ‘Pinterest’ and give it a go who knows where this new form of Social Media will take you!!!
